Day 85(4 days late): Custom Frame

Posted by annagrace under Days 1-100

So, I started this project at like 7 pm… but was doing several different things at the same time and my first attempt failed. I’ll get into that in a bit, but that’s why I’m posting this at 3:15 am… (but I’m changing the publish time to earlier so it will dated April 30… just for my sake of keeping track!)

So, about the project! I’ve been working on a piece that I will post on Saturday. Since it’s a present, I won’t give anything away yet, but I wanted to frame said piece. I couldn’t spend a whole lot and I didn’t want to just give them a boring old frame, so I decided to get a plain black frame and jazz it up a bit! Here’s a ridiculously blurry of the frame before…

I’ve seen people use silver leaf on frames and things like that before, so I wanted a look like that… sort of distressed/aged silver. But when I got to Hobby Lobby, their silver leaf was like $12+!!! So I ended up browsing around a little bit and eventually found some silver acrylic paint for 3 bucks. And then I found a one step crackle finish product for 2 bucks!! JACKPOT! So I got all that, went to the grocery store, came home, had dinner, and then got to work! Well I started painting the silver on, and it was really, really streaky, so I decided to do two pretty thick coats. So, it took a bit for them to dry, between and after. Then I just brushed the crackle finish on top! Well, after waiting 2 hours (!) for it to dry and finish it’s crackle magic, It had crackled the top layer of paint, but you couldn’t see the black at all!! If I wanted that I could’ve just bought a silver frame and been done with it. So I tried sanding it down a bit in some spots to try and distress it a bit, but all the paint started peeling off!! So, I ended up having to scrap all of the paint off and start over…. and that took a long time! (And I’ve got bit’s of silver paint chips in my carpet… cleaning tomorrow!) At any rate, for the second go round, I just did a light brush of the silver, purposely leaving it streaky so you could for sure see the black! I topped it off with the crackle finish and waited…. forever. (Well, I was dying my hair at the same time, so it wasn’t like I was sitting watching paint dry.) Now that I’m finally finished, I’m really happy with how it turned out!

Close-up sans flash to see the crackle!

I love the way this looks! And I think crackle finish and I are going to be BFFs! Can’t wait to see how it looks when my present is all finished!

Day 86 coming up in just a bit!

Day 84(5 days late): 2 Recorder Duets

Posted by annagrace under Days 1-100

So this is a fairly short and easy project, but I’m trying to get caught up!! So, I recorded two recorder duets from  20 Easy Recorder Duets for Children by Tom Horn. The first one is called Nissedens. I recorded both parts on the soprano recorder. I only did one take of each, so forgive the mistakes!!

Nissedans

Since that was only 20 seconds long, I recorded another one! This one was called Tag-fat and was recorded with alto recorder with soprano fingerings. It took a lot longer because the way the rhythms of the two parts worked well when together, but when separate, they were sort of confusing. Also, all the written B’s were supposed to be flat, but I just couldn’t get the fingering down that way, so I just kept them natural…. It makes it sort of strange sometimes, but oh well!

Tag-fat

I’ve got two more posts in the works today, see be on the lookout later tonight!

Day 83(5 days late): Dad’s Birthday Present!

Posted by annagrace under Days 1-100

I’m finally done with my papers!!!!! I turned them in at 11:30 today and it felt amazing! I’ve still got 3 exams over the next 2 weeks, so the posts might be a little spotty, but I thought I’d try and start getting caught up!! So sorry for the delay…

So, Monday was my dad’s birthday! I had already started his present on Day 64 by doing the mold and cast of my hand. I started today by using a sanding sponge to even out the plaster. It was really hard to get into all the little crevices and my hands were starting to hurt, so I mostly just smoothed the rough patches a bit. Then (after getting all the dust off) I used a creamy beige sample jar of paint with equal parts water and did a wash over the whole thing. I was going to just paint it straight on, but I was worried about it getting too thick and not being able to see the wrinkles in my knuckles and things like that. After that, it looked a little too much like a real skin color and I thought it was sort of creepy, so I made an even more diluted wash with blue paint and went right over it. It’s very subtle, but you can see where it settled into some of the holes. I wish I had gotten a progress picture, but I didn’t :( . After that, I looked around online for a bit until I found this traditional henna tattoo, and I copied it in a brown paint on my plaster hand. It was really hard to get all the little details, even with my smallest brush, so I just did my interpretation of it. In the palm, I made a heart since it’s for my dad. :D

For the bottom, I wanted to write some sort of quote about a father and a daughter holding hands or something, but I couldn’t find any that I really liked, so instead i just searched for quotes with hand in them, haha! I came across this one by Leonardo da Vinci, and I think it works well!

So, Happy Birthday again, dad! Can’t wait to give this to you next weekend!

In other news, I mentioned yesterday that we’d had some pretty severe thunderstorms/tornadoes in this area on Wednesday (which was part of the reason why I didn’t finish my papers sooner…). Here’s some pictures of the damage the golf ball sized hail did to my car…

That’s the hood of my car… There are some dimples on the side as well, but the roof was the worst. I don’t have a picture of that.

Apparently some hail jumped up and broke my passenger side blinker…

My windshield got really cracked… here’s the passenger side (from inside the car)

That’s the driver’s side.

While this sucks and all, I am very very lucky that this was all that happened! Many cars around me had windows completely busted out and many houses and other properties were damaged. My county was lucky in that we didn’t have any deaths, but South of us, there have been well over 100 documented deaths so far, and there are still people missing!! So please, keep everybody in your thoughts and prayers!

Days 83 & 84 postponed for a couple of days…

Posted by annagrace under About

I hate to do this after getting so behind last week, but I have seriously neglected my schoolwork lately. This week is the last week of classes before final exams and I’ve got to push through an exam, Astronomy labs, and 2 history papers that I have been putting off like a crazy person. All this will hopefully be done by Wednesday, but it might be Friday, so until then, I’m going to have to postpone this blog for the time being. I will really miss it, but I’ve got to push to the end of the semester! I promise that once this craziness is over, I’ll catch up with the blog ASAP!

So, I was planning on doing a project for my dad’s birthday today, but don’t have time…. But I think he completely understands! Love you Dad! Happy Birthday (again… I think that’s the 4th time I’ve said it today?)!

See you all on the flip side!

Day 82: Landslide (Acapella)

Posted by annagrace under Days 1-100

Since the last 6 posts have been music, I thought I might as well finish it off and make it a week long extravaganza!

So for today, I just did a quick three part recording of Landslide in the style of the Dixie Chicks. Now, don’t get me wrong. I absolutely love the original by Stevie Nicks, as well as the Smashing Pumpkins version most definitely, but I like the Dixie Chicks version purely for the harmonies. I don’t usually like country music, but this is an exception. I tried to find some free sheet music for it with all the parts (I’ve already spent to much on sheet music…), but wasn’t able to find any, so I just sort of winged it. I was fine with the main melody and the high part, but I had some issues with the lower part…. so just bear with me because I only had time to do a couple of takes for each part.

Landslide

So! I have a paper due tomorrow, so I’ll leave you with that! Happy Easter!

Day 81: Karaoke (again… sorry!)

Posted by annagrace under Days 1-100

I had something else planned for today, but then I realized that I didn’t have all the supplies I needed until about an hour ago, so I improvised with Myspace Karaoke again… I know, I know… I said I wouldn’t do it again for awhile, but I found a few more songs I had to do, so there ya go!

The first song is Creep by Radiohead. I love, love, love this song! It’s so haunting and amazing… and you can’t really go wrong with Radiohead, in my opinion! It’s in an awkward key where I can’t sing it all up an octave, and can’t sing it where written, so just pretend it is!

Next I came across Sex and Candy by Marcy Playground. I don’t know why, but I’ve always loved this song! Maybe it’s the thought of Disco Lemonade lol… At any rate, I recorded it up an octave.

Finally I recorded Sixpence None the Richer’s Kiss Me. This is another 90′s song that I loved (and still love) a lot! My voice was kind of going out because it’s getting late, so the balance is off. Fun Fact: The lead singer of this band, Leigh Nash, lives in Nashville and I’ve seen her perform a couple of times! She’s still super awesome :)

So, I promise this is the last of the Karaoke for a good long while!

Day 80: More Than Words

Posted by annagrace under Days 1-100

I’m on a music kick at the moment… sorry! Anyways, I was thinking about some other songs that had amazing harmonies like in Day 79′s Because, and I thought of Extreme’s More Than Words. I mean, with a name like Extreme, you wouldn’t think they could do such a soft and beautiful song, but they rocked it, tight pants, long hair and all!

I found a recording of this that was just the guitar and bass, so I recorded that straight from the computer, so sorry for the bad quality… (BTW does anybody know if there’s any way to load an mp3 straight into Garage Band? Let me know!) The site I found that on also had it where you could isolate the main vocal part and the harmony, so I downloaded one of each and used those as my guides for recording the other parts. I then found some sheet music, just to make sure I was getting the rhythms right, but unfortunately, it didn’t have the second verse with the harmony written out, so it’s a little off in my recording and into the bridge…

More Than Words

I’m actually not that familiar with this song other than occassionally hearing it on the radio, so I think I did a decent job, all things considered! I would spend more time on it, but I’ve got to be at work at 8 am, so I’ll post it as is.

I’m finally caught up!! YAY!

Day 79(1 day late): Because

Posted by annagrace under Days 1-100

Continuing in the Beatles theme from day 78, for yesterday’s post, I did my rendition of their song Because. (That’s the original song (ignore the comic sans… ouch) and here’s the version from Across the Universe :) ) Because has always been one of my all time favorite Beatles songs, mainly because it’s just so dang beautiful and haunting, but also because this song showcases the harmonic genius of the Beatles. They were so great at harmonizing together, and I think that’s something that a lot of current music lacks. And that’s probably why I love Glee so much :)

Anyways, I just found the sheet music for this song online and put in the piano part. Then I recorded all three vocal parts! Enjoy!

Because

Love me some Beatles! :P

Today’s post coming later tonight!!

Day 78(1 day late): Beatles Karaoke

Posted by annagrace under Days 1-100

Okay, this is the last Myspace Karaoke post, I promise! … At least for awhile anyways!

For yesterday’s post, I decided to pay tribute to The Beatles who, as you already well know, I love! Myspace Karaoke actually has a pretty large selection of Beatles songs, so I figured why not do a few of them?

So the first song is Lovely Rita! I sort of had to do this because my car is named Rita after this song :D (My previous car was Roxanne after the Police song :) ). I recorded this one in the Myspace Recorder so you have to click the link to get it. So, here’s my tribute to my Lovely Rita, even if she has a lot of issues and is gas guzzling… I still love her! (Don’t mind the awkward breathing part at the end… I have no rhythm with my inhale and exhale, apparently)

Lovely Rita!!

Next, I did If I Fell. That clip is actually from the movie Across The Universe, but I love this version of it! Anyways, every time I recorded this online, the playback was very delayed to the music track, so I ended up recording my voice alone in Garage Band, and then recording the instrumental track straight off the computer. I added some effects to make it stand out some more, and I feel like this worked better than the 100 Years recording from day 76. Sorry about the octave change… it was too low to sing where written throughout and too high to sing up an octave throughout.

If I Fell

The last song is I Am The Walrus! That video is totally awesome and trippy, but this one from Across the Universe is even more so (literally… in the movie they’re literally tripping…  yay bright colors!! ), and Bono is a God, of course! I recorded this one the same as If I Fell. It’s a little rough, and I botched some of the lyrics, but I love this song! I was trying to emote… don’t know how well it worked…

I Am The Walrus

So! The Myspace Karaoke thing is good for a quick music post, when it works right and doesn’t lag, but it’s also fun for doing karaoke with friends!

Today’s post will be done tomorrow, as well as the one that’s supposed to be for tomorrow! Catching up, slowly but surely!

Day 77(2 days late): Sunrise Video

Posted by annagrace under Days 1-100

Like I mentioned yesterday, I recorded a video using Myspace Karaoke, but it wouldn’t load! It is finally done processing today, so here it is!

MySpace Karaoke video/audio recording of Norah Joness Sunrise, as performed by Anna Grace. Watch it on MySpace Karaoke. Think you can do better? Record your version now!

via Sunrise recorded by Anna Grace | -MySpace Karaoke.

I picked Norah Jones Sunrise because I love her voice and I think it’s a beautiful song! I’m sort of awkward in this video and it sort of reminds me of this youtube classic (which I never fail to laugh hysterically at… even after seeing it a hundred times!), but at least I have the words in front of me and can sing-ish!!

How do you like my new glasses???

I once was a breadpan!!!

*15 second pose starting now*

……….

…………..

Love you like a bro and cyst in Christ!
