Day 76(2 days late): 100 Years

Posted by annagrace under Days 1-100

So this didn’t work out how I wanted it to, but I was determined to get one more post in today. I found this Karaoke thing on MySpace where you can record (just audio or video) different songs and upload them. Well I recorded a video a few hours ago, and you’re supposed to be able to embed it into your page… well I just checked back on it and it says it’s uploaded, but it’s still processing!! I may try and post that video tomorrow, but we’ll just have to see. At any rate, I ended up doing a completely different song and recorded myself singing to the karaoke track… so the recording came out really crappy quality. Oh well!

Anyways, the song is 100 Years by Five For Fighting (BTW I really want that piano… it’s so awesome!). For reasons that I can’t remember, this song was really important to my group of friends at Governor’s School the summer of 2005 (after Junior year of high school) when I went to the West campus for Oboe in the Orchestra. Maybe it was because GSW was a significant turning point in many of our lives. I think we all got a much better idea of who we were in that short six week period and got a taste of what life would be like in college living away from parents. I know that those six weeks were probably the greatest part of high school for me. At any rate, I remember listening to this song a lot while sitting on the couch outside the practice rooms, but particularly one time towards the end of camp when we were all thinking about having to go back to the real world and our separate high schools. I think there were about 6 of us smushed together and sitting on top of each other on this little love seat that was meant for 2 people. :D I’m sad that this recording didn’t come out better, but here it is anyways.

100 Years

You know, I met some really amazing people at GSW. I wish I could say that I still keep in touch with them, but sadly I don’t except for a few I’m friends with on facebook, but don’t really talk to. Maybe I’ll reach out to some of them soon :)

Going to try and catch up with posts tomorrow, but definitely on Friday because I don’t have class!!

Day 75(3 days late): Scrap Skulls

Posted by annagrace under Days 1-100

This post is shamefully late… I haven’t been this far behind posts yet this whole project, and I’m sorry! But, I have my phone back and will try and catch up with as many posts today as I can.

So for Sunday’s post, I was lying in my living room floor (because my back was hurting) and talking to my friend who was there when I started playing around with the feathers that are still on my floor (and keep appearing!) from when I made my ostrich costume. We had been talking about how my blog got featured on Make Something 365 and on Skull A Day (which I hadn’t told you all about… but the Jelly Bean Skull was featured the same day as my blog on Make Something 365!!), and how, as Whitney jokes, I like skulls and and black or gray things like that because they’re “dark like my soul!” Hahahaha… it’s a running joke that I have a “black soul” and Whitney’s is potentially a floral explosion of color. :) Just because I have a little more edge in some of my clothing choices, and she is the definition of cute! Anyways, I was playing with the feathers and thought, I should make a skull out of feathers to go with my black soul! (BTW I don’t really think I have a black soul, and I actually wear a lot of bright colors… I just am a little more hard edged than Whit, which isn’t hard to do :D ) The feather’s were surprisingly easy to work with because they have a natural curve to them. Whitney said that we needed to make it a girl skull and give it a bow (which I agreed with because I like cute stuff, too!), so we each made one for it. Here’s the feather skull with my bow made out of tissue paper.

And Whitney decided to make a bow out of the purple easter basket fill leftover from making the faux resin jewelry.

Which bow do you like better?

After making the feather skull, I decided to make another one out of the basket fill. It was a lot harder to work with because it sort of sprang out in every direction, so I couldn’t make the holes out of a darker color like I wanted to. Instead I just used some beads to make them.

It’s funny how my living room has turned into Create A Day 365 Headquarters where everything is made! I’ve got to get all my crafting stuff organized!

Postponed posts… STILL! Left phone @ work…

Posted by annagrace under Uncategorized

So… epic fail on my part. I did do a post for day 75 (Sunday) yesterday, but I fell asleep before I remembered to post it! And I was going to be behind a day, but I wasn’t too worried about it. Now, I actually did a project at work todat, but I forgot my phone there, which has the pictures on it… So it looks like I’m even further behind. And, I have paper due tomorrow, and today was horrible, so, yeah, you don’t want to hear my rants. BUT I will try and at least do one or two posts tomorrow after class (and I get my phone back…)! So, be on the lookout for days 75-77 over the next few days! I will get caught up, dangit!

Day 74: Jar of Hearts

Posted by annagrace under Days 1-100

The song Jar of Hearts by Christina Perri has been stuck in my head for literally months!! I just think it’s soooo beautiful!! And haunting! I think the video is pretty beautiful too, other than the awkward way he sucks out their hearts haha! So anyways, since it’s been in my head so long I decided to record it! I searched for a long time and finally found a full pdf copy of the whole song and parts. So I just put the piano part into garage band (which took forever!!!!!) and the recorded the main part and then the harmony. I wasn’t that familiar with the harmony so it’s sort of iffy at times, and there’s one part in the sheet music (during the bridge) where it just stops mid sentence… so I sounds sort of strange, but oh well!

Jar of Hearts

I think I’ve just succeeded in getting it stuck in my head even worse! Ahhhh oh well… at least it’s an awesome song! :)

Day 73: 2 Recorder Duets, Disen and Ekko

Posted by annagrace under Days 1-100

These recorder duets were really easy and short, so I did two of them! In fact, they were from a pdf I found on free-scores.com called 20 Easy Recorderduets for Children… haha! So, yeah they were easy. :D They were written by Tom Horn and it looks as though the title might have originally been in German (20 lette blokfløjteduetter for børn), so the titles of the duets are in German also. Also, I played these on Alto Recorder using Soprano fingerings.

The first one is called Disen.

Disen

The second one is called Ekko (it’s sort of like a round). BTW I changed from minor to major because it was having issues with the Bb fingering!

Ekko

There ya go!

Day 72: Pictures of Poetry 2

Posted by annagrace under Days 1-100

Today I decided to put some images to a poem I wrote in poetry class just like on Day 37.

For this poem, our prompt was to write a poem everyday for five days, and then combine them into one poem somehow. So, to represent that with images, I chose an image for each day and divided into 5 sections. I then created the image below in 5 columns with each column representing a stanza. The sections of the images are in the order of the verses. So, as you read the whole poem, you can see what versus correspond with that verse by looking at where the rest of the image is! That’s sort of a round about and complicated way of saying it, but I think it’s pretty easy to follow.

I suggest reading the entire poem first and then going back and seeing if you can read each individual poem. As always, you can click the image to see it larger. And sorry about the weird formatting… wordpress wouldn’t recognize the space between stanzas, so I edited the indentions to make it easier to follow!

Scattered Emotion

Grasping the pencil with a weak hand,

Time for a little breather.

Walking Alone,

Stress explodes from my soul with

Sappy cards and bold decorations,

carrying a lobster red gas can.

red roses and pink carnations.

the mention of another task

trying to finish it all as planned.

Time for friends.

Kissing lovers without hesitation,

Time for no thoughts.

Doubting oneself with every move,

Break down number four of the semester.

Good Lord, it’s cold.

Stares from strangers,

that break the rules of visitation.

but also so wanting to prove,

Can I do this?

Time for resting.

A Valentine’s Day celebration.

but no one offers a hand.

this you can do. You’ll make it through.

Thank God for friends.

Time for… me.

I think that this ended up being one of my most successful poems in the class. Without thinking about it, I somehow managed to meld these 5 completely different poems together into a pretty coherent poem! I think the images split make it easier to follow which poem is which, also, and that’s something I really struggled with in the class as far a formatting.

If you’re still completely lost, here’s the 5 individual poems:

Thursday: (picture of gas can)

Walking Alone,

carrying a lobster red gas can.

Good Lord, it’s cold.

Stares from strangers,

but no one offers a hand.

Friday: (Picture of stressed woman)

Stress explodes from my soul with

the mention of another task

Break down number four of the semester.

Can I do this?

Thank God for friends.

Saturday: (Picture of pocket watch)

Time for a little breather.

Time for friends.

Time for no thoughts.

Time for resting.

Time for… me.

Sunday: (Picture of hearts)

Sappy cards and bold decorations,

red roses and pink carnations.

Kissing lovers without hesitation,

that break the rules of visitation.

A Valentine’s Day celebration.

Monday: (Picture of drafting supplies)

Grasping the pencil with a weak hand,

trying to finish it all as planned.

Doubting oneself with every move,

but also so wanting to prove,

this you can do. You’ll make it through.

Still lost? Well… I got nothing for ya! :D

Day 71: Hour of the Doodle

Posted by annagrace under Days 1-100

For today’s project, I decided to just doodle! I started at 8 as Tyra said “previously on Top Model…” and ended after she finished the “coming up on America’s Next Top Model” section at 9! ANTM is definitely my guilty pleasure :)

So I started by just doodling my name like I do a lot in class when I’m bored (model student, right here!) with a pen. I just kept adding more until it looked right to me. Then I drew some swirly ribbon thingys in the same way, adding more and more curves and swoops. I then went over the letters in a silver metallic paint pen, but there wasn’t enough definition, so I outlined them with a dark brown colored pencil. Next I filled in the ribbon things with red, lime green, and teal colored pencils. I still had awhile before the show was over, so I drew a flower in the upper corner with Prismacolor Markers, but it looked sort of out of place, so I drew some petals scattered all over at different sizes. I finished it off by outlining the petals and the flower in pen, and finished right as Shedding For The Wedding was coming on (so glad the Eco Wedding couple won, BTW!)! Here’s the finished product displayed nicely on top of my colored pencils with and without flash!

Things like this cover many many margins of notebooks! Another favorite thing to doodle is lamps! Maybe I’ll do one for this project someday?

Anna Grace

So, yeah, this is a day late… Yesterday was a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day! I would go into details, but just take my word for it that it was bad! So when I got off work, I just sort of crashed, hung out with a friend and did homework. Anything I would have produced for the blog yesterday would have also been terrible, horrible, no good, and very bad!

At any rate, this project more than makes up for it, I think! It’s another song from my favorite musical, Spring Awakening! This song is The Guilty Ones, and I decided upon it mostly because it was doable on alto recorder (using soprano fingerings). So, I ended up doing 3 parts on recorder (I had to make one go down an octave in Garage Band because I couldn’t play that low), a small part on guitar (not real guitar… just put it in GB) and voice over all of that! WHEW!

The Guilty Ones

This took pretty long to get all the parts in time together, but I think it turned out really well! In fact, I think it might be my best recording yet?? Although Techo Baby Baby has a special place in my heart! :D

Look for today’s post later tonight!
