Day 135: Kat’s Graduation Portrait

Posted by annagrace under Days 101-200

So…… I’m in Chicago!!!!! My sister is graduating with her masters in horn performance this weekend, so me and the fam came up for it! As my present to her, I did a portrait of her and her horn. (FYI posting this on my phone, so sorry for any awkwardness!!)

Enjoy!

Day 134: When I’m 64

Posted by annagrace under Days 101-200

I’m in Nashville tonight and headed to Chicago tomorrow!! So, I just did a quick version of When I’m 64 by the Beatles!

It’s a little too low for me, so it’s sort of scratchy at some points!

When I’m 64

Sorry this is such a short post! I have to reorganize everything to get through airport security!

Day 133: Lazy Song

Posted by annagrace under Days 101-200

I’m still working furiously away on the two portraits, so this song doesn’t really describe today as much as this post. I’m almost done with one of the portraits, but wanted to wait on posting anything else about them until I give them away, so I decided to do a quick, easy post.

The Lazy Song is a song by Bruno Mars (I’m being lazy and not posting a link to the video… google it!) that’s fairly simple and fun! I quickly found the chords, ran through it a couple of times and t he recorded in one take! I added another part for the whistling (I sang it instead…) and harmonies.

Lazy Song

I botched the lyrics an chords in a few places, but I’m not to worried about it!! I was super lazy on the last line by not annunciating the t in at… so it sounds like nothing addall!! haha

BTW I’m going to Nashville tomorrow straight from work and then leaving the next morning for Chicago!!!!! I’ll try and get some posting done, but I’m sure I’ll be really busy, so I promise I’ll catch up quickly starting Sunday if I fall behind!!

Day 132: 2 Portraits

Posted by annagrace under Days 101-200

So, I’m currently working on two pretty big, important charcoal portraits that I’ve got to get done by Wednesday night before I go to Chicago (eeee!!! So excited!!), so I don’t really have anything to post tonight. Since these are pretty intense, I think I’m going to count them as 3 days worth of posts…

At any rate, both of these are gifts, so I don’t want to reveal too much of them to you just yet, but here’s a sneak peek of what I’ve done so far with the first one.

Sorry it’s so blurry! The second piece I only got to laying out my grid and doing a basic outline.

I may look like I haven’t done much, but it took awhile to lay it out and size everything! Plus, I got like 3 hours of sleep last night, so I’m calling it a night. I’ll do another update post tomorrow, and maybe I’ll be done with one of them!?

Day 131: Oh My Darling (Backwoods Country Style)

Posted by annagrace under Uncategorized

I’ve been feeling kind of down the past couple of days for various reasons, so I decided I needed to do something funny for this project. So, I found the chords for Clementine for ukulele with all the verses, (or as they called it, the full story :) ) and recorded it with my best country accent! hahaha :D This definitely cheered me up because I kept getting so tickled at myself, it took me several takes because I was laughing to hard! I recorded a harmony over it on the choruses, but honestly I don’t think I sang it the same way twice! But that makes it that much better! So… if you want a good laugh, listen to this!!

Clementine

HAHA! I feel much better now

Day 130(1 day late):Fabric Design

Posted by annagrace under Days 101-200

Did you know that there’s a website where you can upload your own pattern and create/order your own personalized fabric? Spoonflower is just the place for that! You just have to make your own pattern using whatever software you have on hand and upload it! You can then order a sample of it for $5 or more for a very reasonable price, especially considering that it’s a custom fabric! So, for today’s project, I made my own fabric!

I started out with a simple black and white Damask Pattern with an easy to manage repeat. Then I took it into photoshop and repeated it 6 across and 6 down so that I would have my adjusted pattern repeat the way it needed to. I wanted to do a sort of modern take on the traditional pattern, so I filled in some of the black patterns in pink, aqua blue or green, alternating in a pattern on the angle. I then gave it a soft purple/gray background and I was done! Here’s the finished product from photoshop:

Fun, right? I made it a pretty large size because I wanted the pattern to be bigger and bolder! So I just uploaded it into Spoonflower and picked just the standard quilting fabric (I don’t need anything fancy!), and went ahead and ordered a “Fat Quarter: (21×18″) for me to try for $11! Here it is on Spoonflower:

I can’t wait for this to get here!! I might make a pillow or something out of it, but I’ll definitely be creating something with it!

I recently re-watched the first season of Glee, and since then I have wanted to try my hand at their version of Journey’s Don’t Stop Believing! I loved how they took the piano part and broke it up to “dah-dahs” in the background harmonies… that’s true acapella Glee Club fashion right there!! (In fact, I wish they did more acapella stuff on the show… maybe next season??) At any rate, I searched forever and finally found the entire thing written out for free!! So, I wrote out each part in Garage Band, then recorded each part. It included a piano accompaniment, but I wanted to see how it did with just the vocals (and I had spent entirely too long on it already!). I can’t sing low enough to do the lowest background part (which makes me wonder… who sang it on the show?? Surely Kurt can’t sing that low! And Artie was playing guitar in the clip, so he couldn’t sing it… ah tv magic! I guess they don’t have to show all the singers…), so I had to record it up an octave and then take it down in Garage Band, so it has that sort of weird robot effect… but oh well! I think all things considered, it turned out pretty sweet!

Don’t Stop Believing (Glee)

FYI It’s really hard to sing dah dah dah that much(3 parts… multiple takes!!)! My mouth feels funky after that…

Also, if you don’t mind, I’d like to rant for just a sec…. if you don’t want to read it, just skip the next paragraph.

I was going to post a link to the original song by Journey, but every video I found had the most horrible comments on them about how awful Glee is and how it “ruined” this and many other songs… There is no need for that crap! If you don’t like Glee, don’t watch it!! I don’t think Glee has ruined any of the songs they’ve used. First of all, if you think that a song can be ruined by just a different interpretation of it, then maybe it wasn’t a good enough or strong enough song to begin with! Secondly, all the singers on Glee are amazing!!! Their talent outweighs many of the artists who’s songs they sing!! No, I’m not saying Glee is better than Journey… don’t get your panties in a wad! I’m just saying, if you appreciate good music, and classic music, you should at least respect Glee a little. I mean, I even sometimes wonder, why the heck did they do that that way, but I still respect it as a different take of that song. I also understand that a lot of people don’t like Glee because of how unrealistic it can be sometimes, particularly musically. Part of me definitely agrees! Mostly the music snob part of me. But come one people, it’s purely for entertainment!!! It doesn’t matter if they couldn’t sing like that in a certain situation or sometimes it’s super cheesy, it’s TV and it’s supposed to be fun and exciting! Also, I think that Glee brings up a lot of issues of high school that many other shows tend to just gloss over, such as sex, teen pregnancy, alcohol, poverty, bullying, sexuality, identity… and I personally think it’s important for teenagers to know about these things. So, I guess what I’m trying to say is, it doesn’t matter if you like the show or the music, there’s no need to mouth off about it on public domains… respect it and just acknowledge it as a different take, purely for entertainment value, and move on with your life. All that negative energy put into spouting all over the internet  surely can’t be good for you…

Whew! I feel better :)

I’m gonna try and get caught up tomorrow!!

Anna Grace

Last night I came home from a long day at work, made dinner, checked emails/facebook etc. and then fell asleep with my computer on my stomach. I realized as soon as I woke up this morning (don’t worry, I woke up about an hour after dozing off and moved the computer.) that I hadn’t done anything for my blog!! I don’t really have a good excuse other than just reeeaaaalllllyyyyy tired! At any rate, I’m making up for it today, but probably won’t do today’s post until tomorrow since I have work at 8 am.

So, I decided to play around with photoshop a bit with a picture that was taken of me at my cousin’s wedding about a month ago. Here’s the original:

This is one photo of myself that I actually really love! I think the fact that I felt confident in the way I looked that night helped me to take an awesome picture! At any rate, I love how bright red my hair is (I’ve dyed it slightly lighter and toned down since then… I’m trying to slowly get back to my natural blond. I love love LOVE the red, but it’s so hard to keep up with since I have such light roots!!) and I was wearing one of my favorite lipsticks, which is now, unfortunately, almost gone :( , so I wanted to play those up. For all of the portraits, I cut and re-pasted my hair and lips onto a new layer.

The first photo, I desaturated the background and used the paper cutout filter, then the poster edges filter on the hair and lips.

The second one I adjusted the hue a bit of the background and used the dry brush filter, then the palette knife filter on the lips/hair with a green hue.

For the third picture, I raised the vibrance and saturation of the background and posterized it to 4 levels. For the eyes and hair, I changed the hue and saturation then used the plastic wrap filter.

This last picture I raised the saturation and vibrance as high as possible on the background then pixelated it with the color halftone filter. The hair and lips were changed to a royal blue hue and given the sponge painting filter.

Enjoy!

Day 127: I’m Yours

Posted by annagrace under Days 101-200

Yes… it’s another ukulele song. Sorry!! But it’s a song that actually is perfect for ukulele! I’m Yours by Jason Mraz. There were several different variations of tabs for this, but I only found one in an easy key that had the tabs with all the words. Unfortunately, the key is just a tad low for me, so after doing several takes, I was sort of losing my voice. Also, the middle part with the “do do dos” was also not quite right in the tabs I found, and I recorded the uke first (the syncopation was ridiculous for me to try and sing and play at the same time!!), so I just sort of scatted that part and made it up. I had a really hard time getting everything in the right rhythm with vocals on the beat and uke off the beat, so there’s a couple of times where it’s off (particularly at the end) but I was ready to be done with it!! So, I just left it as is. :)

I’m Yours

Sorry for the weird feedback… not really sure what that is or how to get rid of it… It appeared randomly after I sent it to iTunes…

I love Jason Mraz and I do believe one of his other songs will be making an appearance!

Day 126: Let It Be

Posted by annagrace under Days 101-200

Had a really crazy busy day at work today and I have to be back there at 7 am (uuugggghhhh…) so I’m going to make this short.

I decided to do another tune on ukulele because it was something I had already practiced and could bust out pretty quickly tonight, and I’m trying to play every day to build up my callouses! As you probably know by now, I love the Beatles! So when I came across a fairly simple arrangement of Let It Be for uke, I jumped on it! That first link is the original Beatles, which is amazing, of course, but that second link is from the movie Across the Universe (be careful… you will probably most definitely cry!! But it’s sooooo good, too!!), and I sort of sang it in more that style. I admit, it’s sort of a half-assed recording just because I’m so tired, but I think it’s alright!

Let It Be

I’m going to bed…
