Day 225(16 days late): Animal Instinct

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

It’s pretty late and I’ve got to work at 8 am tomorrow, so I’m keeping this short!

For this post, I did a quick recording of the Cranberries Animal Instinct! I love the Cranberries music and have their greatest hits album, so I thought I wold pay tribute to that! I started by nust recording the melody, and then I recorded the harmony over top!

Animal Instinct

I will definitely do more of my favorite Cranberries songs in the future!

Day 224(16 days late): Lucky DUET WITH MASON!!

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

For this post, I collaborated once again with my friend, Mason! If you remember, way back for day 100, we did Come On Get Higher as a duet! Since then, we’ve been wanting to do something together again, but just couldn’t get together to do that until now! Today we recorded Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat’s Lucky!

We actually have been practicing this for quite awhile with the sheet music I found and wrote out the parts to in garage band, but today was the first time we were able to do it together! So we started by recording both parts at the same time while listening to the song, then we recorded Mason playing the guitar and me playing ukulele! The ukulele added a nice element of fun, and I was excited to try playing it for the first time since I got my cast off! (I’m wearing a brace now for at least the next 6 weeks, but it’s much less cumbersome than the cast!) So, here’s our recording!

We had sooooo much fun doing this! We talked about a bunch of other songs we could do, possibly even some more elaborate with drum parts and everything!! And another friend of ours is interested in doing some stuff, so look out for some more great collaboration in the future!!

Day 223(16 days late): Turkey Loaf Muffins Take 2

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

Today I set out to make the turkey meatloaf muffins that I made a while back again. I quickly realized that I was missing a few of the ingredients! I was missing onion, so I replaced that with edamame, because that is what I had on hand! I added in some dried chopped onion to try and give it some of that onion flavor. Instead of green bell peppers, I used a yellow one, and I was running low on garlic as well, so I supplemented with some dried garlic. I sauteed all of that together!

Next I mixed all of the ingredients together, but remembered that I didn’t have any eggs! So I added extra ketchup to make it stick together. Here is the mixture in the pans before baking.

After baking for a while, I added the ketchup mustard and brown sugar mixture to the tops and finished baking!

I ate 2 for dinner because I hadn’t eaten all day, and man was it good!! The edamame added an extra layer of texture that was nice, although I think the lack of egg made it a little dry. But overall, not bad! I will be eating these for a few days now!

I am unfortunately even more days behind due to midterms this week…. But now it is fall break, so hopefully I can get some posts knocked out this weekend!

The other night, after staring at the contents of the fridge for awhile, I decided to just do a quick veggies stir fry! I had a bunch of bell peppers of different colors on hand, and being the visual person I am, I thought they would be so pretty with some frozen edamame that I also had! Here are the gorgeous peppers!

So I combined these peppers with the edamame and about a tablespoon of Soy Vay Veri Veri Teriyaki, which is the best teriyaki sauce ever, by the way! I put it on everything!

While those were cooking, I baked some salmon in the oven with just a sprinkle of salt and pepper on both sides. When that was done, I topped it with some homemade salsa I made the other night. I plated it up with the veggies and I was done!

I gotta tell you, the main reason I decided to post about this was because of the beautiful colors! The added bonus was that it was really yummy, too! The teriyaki sauce seeped into the salmon a bit and in combination with the salsa was the most amazing flavor!

Another food post coming up!!

Day 221(15 days late): For The First Time

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

The next song in this series is For The First Time by The Script. I recorded the main part and the higher harmony, then I added a lower simple harmony to the last part of the song.

For The First Time

I think this is my favorite song of all the ones I recorded last night! But you all know Im a sucker for anything with harmonies!

Day 220(16 days late): Keep Your Head Up

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

So… I lied. I was going to post two more songs last night, and I definitely just passed out after the first one!! But I will be posting the two I promised last night as well as another one I recorded this morning, BONUS!

Anyways, this song is Keep Your Head Up by Andy Grammer. It’s a pretty happy-go-lucky song, but it has a good message about remaining positive, even when you’re down! The video is pretty goofy, too! I recorded the main part, as well as the harmony for this song. I botched the beginning and the end a bit, but c’est la vie!

Keep Your Head Up

2 more songs, coming up!

Day 219(16 days late): Secrets

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

In order to catch up on posts (gotten a few more days behind, unfortunately…), I decided to do a few acapalla recordings quickly. So, this is the first in that series, and it is Secrets by One Republic. As you can tell in the video, this song has a pretty amazing cello part. Someday maybe I will record this again and recreate that, but for this recording I just sang the melody by itself.

A couple more posts coing up later!! BTW I got my cast off!!! But I have to wear a brace for at least 6 weeks… at least I can take a shower!!

Day 218(14 days late): Cast Doodles 3

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

About a week and a half ago, I got cast number three put on my broken wrist. I had done a few different doodles on it and was planning on posting it yesterday, but at work I was holding a quart under my arm and somehow the lid popped off! At any rate, the paint went all over my clothes, the front desk, the floor and my cast… completely covering the majority of the doodles I had done with a yellow/beige shade that would great on a wall, but terrible on my light pink cast! So, I decided to embrace the paint today and just paint my whole cast!

I did a little research and found that it was totally fine to put latex paint on a fiberglass cast, plus I’m getting it off Friday, so I wasn’t too worried about it! I had some of that blue/green paint from way back on day 10, so I did a coat of that all over the cast, taking care to just get it on the fiberglass part, and not the cotton or inside the cast.

After that dried, I used a metallic silver sharpie to freehand a sort of damask pattern. I was looking at a picture when I drew it, and it ended up a lot bigger than I was planning… but I think it turned out pretty cool! Then I used a slate blue and a fushia sharpie to outline the shape.

I decided it needed a little bit more, so I thought I would put a little sort of scroll in the two bottom “corners” if you’re looking at my arm palm down. I drew one the same way I did the big pattern, but then I realized that there was no way I was going to be able to draw one one the opposite side because I couldn’t reach it, so one will have to do! Here’s a close up of the side scroll and then a side view of the whole cast.

I think it turned out pretty cool and it’s definitely better than the awkward mess it was last night after I spilled paint on it! And let me tell you, I am SO PUMPED to get this thing off on Friday!! It’s still pretty sore, so I think I may have to wear a brace for awhile, at least at work, but we’ll see what the doctor says!

Day 217(12 days late): Laus Trinitati

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

Yesterday, Sept. 17, was the anniversary of Saint Hildegard of Bingen‘s death, and her feast day. Among many things, Hildegard was one of the first women to write music that was recognized by the church. Laus Trinitati, or O Praise Be To You Holy Trinity is a chant that she wrote which is included in the hymnal for the Episcopal church. In honor of her feast day, my mom sang this in both services at my church back home, so I decided to sing it, too!

Since it is a chant, it is very free form, tempo wise. I recoded myself just singing it in English as I felt it. It says in the directors hymnal that it can be sung by itself or with B and E handbells chiming at the end of each line. Since I dont have handbells, I put those notes into garage band and used the church bells effect on it. I think it turned out pretty good!

Day 216(10 days late): Benny Photoshop Portraits

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

Today is one of my best friend in the whole wide world’s birthday! I’m working on something else for Whitney that is my present to her, but it’s not quite ready, so I thought I’d honor her birthday with fun portraits of her cat, Benny!

Whitney has always been a cat lover, but her love became much stronger when she met Ben! Ben came from an abusive house where they actually shot him with a bb gun! He was left with one ear and a lazy eye, all of which made Whitney love him and want to have and help him even more! So she adopted him and had her brother keep him until she was done with school and could live somewhere that allowed pets. Now that she is in her own place with a real job, Benny is the love of her life! Now, I am definitely not a cat person, mostly because I’m allergic to them… in fact, for the most part, I really dislike them, but it’s really hard not to love Ben! He’s just the most comical cat ever! Whit’s always calling me with tales of his antics and texting me crazy pictures of him, so I decided that I would photoshop some awesome pictures of Ben that she took, and make them hilarious!!

This first one is Benny walking on the log away from the camera. I thought it would be funny if he was glowing and had butterflies around him! This is particularly comical because I really don’t like butterflies! I mean, I think the can be very pretty in their natural state, but any time I see and item of clothing or jewelry that has those cheesy butterflies, I want to tear it apart! Whit knows this about me, and loves to point out butterflies in everything, so why not have crazy glowing butterflies and raise the level of tacky?

This next one I used the same glowing method and highlighted Ben and his crazy eyes! When Ben gets in his cat fits, he attacks his toys and/or the rug and gets this crazed look in his eye! haha

This last one is more of a nice one where I just cut out the green parts of the photo and pasted them onto a black and white copy. I adjusted the saturation a bit to make it stand out even more!

That shows Benny’s classy side!

Happy birthday, Whitney!!! Love you!
