Day 241(? days late): Foolish Games (1997)

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

So, I have gotten even more days behind… I went to Atlanta on Friday, then to Chattanooga on Saturday for my friend’s wedding (Shout out to Perrin and Kevin… Congrats! It was so beautiful and unique!), then back to Atlanta after the wedding late that night, then finally back to Knoxville Sunday night! So, needless to say, I didn’t get any posts in. And then this week I’ve been super busy and trying to fight off a Rheumatoid Arthritis flare up that I knew was coming… then today I failed that battle and got hit… hard. I’ve been in bed all day and on the phone with my rheumatologist to try and get an appointment, and he finally just called in a prescription for me. It seems to be helping a bit, but because of the flare up, I ended up resting/napping my entire day off instead of catching up on posts! At any rate, I don’t know how many days behind I am at this point because I don’t have the energy to look for my project calendar, but I will try and catch up ASAP… well when I feel better!

1997 was an amazing year in music in my opinion! I had a really hard time picking just one song, so I ended up just picking whatever my mouse landed on! And that song was Foolish Games by Jewel! I love her voice! It rides the line of a yodel sometimes and is sooo interesting! So, as always, I recorded this a cappella in one take.

Enjoy! I am headed to bed…

Day 240(14 days late): Torn (1998)

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

For my 1998 top 100 song choice I went with Torn by Natilie Imbruglia. Back in 1998 I was only 10 years old. I probably didnt understand the lyrics of this song at all, but I loved it!! I would watch the top 20 count down on VH1 or TRL on MTV waiting in antici….pation (had to do it… sorry! ) for this and all my other favorite songs of the time to come on! I sang this a capella.

Day 239(15 days late): Beautiful Stranger (1999)

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

Ive gotten a few more days behind because of a boatload of homework and an exam… I will be out of town this weekend, but I hope to still get a few posts in!

For the top 100 song choice from 2009, I chose Beautiful Stranger by Madonna. This is probably one of my all time favorite Madonna songs, and I love Austin Powers so much!!! As usual, I sang this a cappella.

Beautiful Stranger (1999)

One more post coming up in a bit!

Day 238(13 days late): Kryptonite (2000)

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

Moving on with the top 100 hits of my life, the song I chose for 2000 was 3 Doors Down’s Kryptonite. This song was my jam back in the day!! I remember playing this like 1000 times in a row! I’m not really sure why I liked it so much, but I played it all the time and because of that still remember all the words, 11 years later! I sang this a cappella in 1 take.

Kryptonite (2000)

Enjoy! Just one post tonight because I have homework

Day 237(13 days late): Fallin’ (2001)

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

Rounding out the last 10 years of my life in music, I chose Alicia Key’s Fallin’ as the top 100 song from 2001 for me to record! Alicia Keys has the most amazing voice! I love the way she can just dip and swoop all over the place with ad lib sections, and this song is a perfect example of that! I listened to this track a few times before I recorded it and I decided to just do my own take of it and not try and get all the oohs and ahhs that she did or hit all the notes exactly.

Fallin’ (2001)

I’m really, really happy with the way this turned! And I think it was the most fun to record of this set so far!

Day 236(14 days late): Underneath It All (2002)

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

One of my favorite top 100 songs of 2002 was No Doubt’s Underneath It All featuring Lady Saw! Instead of just doing this acapella, I decided to back it with the good beat of the ukulele!

Underneath It All (2002)

I had to make up some of the chords because the ones I found weren’t complete, but I think it turned out well!

Day 235(15 days late): Unwell (2003)

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

The top 100 song I chose for 2003 was Matchbox 20′s Unwell. I’ve always been a big fan of Matchbox 20… I may or may not have Yourself Or Someone Like You in my car right now… :) I think that Unwell was a great come back after Rob Thomas’s battle with addiction, and I mean, who else could get away with using banjo in a pop/rock song?? So great. As usual, I recorded this acapella.

Unwell (2003)

I look forward to the great hits by Matchbox 20 and Rob Thomas solo that are bound to come in the future!

Day 234(16 days late): Numb (2004)

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

In 2004, Linkin Park, who I’ve already mentioned as one of my favorite bands in high school, had several top 100 hits. I decided upon Numb because it was one of the highest up! I recorded 2 parts, just because I thought it was necessary, although I’m the worst rapper of all time!

Numb (2004)

I think I’ll be doing more LP songs in the future!

For my top 100 song pick from 2005, I chose Fall Out Boy’s Sugar, We’re Going Down! While I was recording some songs today, I was watching VH1′s Top 100 Songs of the ’00s… which was hosted than none other than Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz! So I thought it was appropriate to include this song!

Sugar We’re Going Down (2005)

It’s funny, I never really understood the words to this song! I realized when I looked up the lyrics that I had the chorus completely wrong! I always thought it was, “We’re going down, down and we’re spinning around/ sugar we’re going down swinging/ I’ll beat your number one with a bully/ A loaded gun complex, cock it and pull it.” The words are actually, “We’re going down, down in an earlier round/ And sugar we’re going down swinging/ I’ll be your number one with a bullet/ A loaded God complex cock it and pull it!” It’s funny how song lyrics can be misconstrued! On a different, but relevant note, there’s some country song that comes on the radio all the time at work (I know… it makes we want to puke on the daily haha) where he says that he has a “Semper Fi” tattoo on his left arm. One of the guys I work with was like, “that’s a good motto to have on your arm, ‘Simplify!’” We laughed really hard at that one!

When deciding what top 100 hit to sing for 2006, I couldn’t decide on just one! So I picked 2!

The first song is Breathe (2 am) by Anna Nalick. I love this song not only for her amazing voice, but for the awesome lyrics. “Life’s like an hourglass glued to the table” has got to be one of the best metaphors ever! I just sang it acapella!

Breathe (2 AM) (2006)

The second song I chose is also one where I really love the lyrics! The song is When You Were Young by the Killers. It’s in the first rock band, and when I play with my cousin, Andrew, that’s one of the songs I always want to play!

When You Were Young (2006)

So far, so good! I’ve recorded a bunch of stuff today, so look out for more posts a bit later!
