Day 259: O Come O Come Emmanuel with Mom!

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

After spending a few days in Atlanta with my dad’s side of the family, I came back to Knoxville for a day (I had to work) and then decided to go home to Boone for a few days to see my mom!! I haven’t been home in a really long time… I think the last time was this summer! It’s good to see my mom and go to my church :)

Speaking of church, as always, my mother wanted me to contribute some way with the service music since I was there. I didn’t think to bring my recorders, oboe, or ukulele, but she had a irish penny whistle and suggested I play that! I have my own whistle, so it came back to me quickly! Anyways, I played on several songs during the service, along with singing with the choir, but mom and I did the prelude and postlude just the two of us! This recording is of mom playing piano and myself playing penny whistle to O Come O Come Emmanuel. Today is the first Sunday of the Advent season in the Episcopal church, so it was an appropriate choice! The arrangement was made up last night by my extremely talented mother, but we she just really improvised it. It turned out great I think!

O Come O Come Emmanuel

Kind of a bad recording because we just used my mom’s iPhone. And sorry about how sharp I am… really can’t do anything about that on penny whistle! Those things aside, I think we did a pretty good job and I always love making music with my mama!

Day 258(? days late): Cancer Drawing

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

I made it to Atlanta and am about to leave for dinner so I’m going to make this quick!

I continued in the zodiac symbol personification drawings for this post with this drawing representing the symbol Cancer. One of the things that represents the cancer symbol is crabs, so I decided to draw a girl with a crab in her hair almost like a pin!

Now that I’m getting more familiar with this style of drawing and this medium, I am able to do more original drawings like this one!!

Day 257(? days late): Gemini Drawing

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

I have fallen even farther behind due to a bad sinus infection and then I was have trouble getting the image to load…. It seems like this semester is out to get me… But, I will catch up!!

At any rate, I decided to continue on in my Zodiac colored pencil drawings. This one represents Gemini. Gemini is represented by twins, as in dual personalities in one person. I decided to draw two women with their hair blending together as if they were physically connected. I had a little trouble with the drawing getting dark really fast. I had messed up and tried to mask it, but it just made it get all muddy, so I’m not entirely happy with this drawing, but it’s a good first draft.

I might revisit this one at a later date….

FYI I am headed to Atlanta tomorrow for Thanksgiving! I hope to get some posts in while I am there, but no guarantees!

Day 256(? days late): Taurus Drawing

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

Continuing in my zodiac colored pencil drawings, this one represents Taurus. Taurus is symbolized by the bull, so I drew a girl with bull horns and a ring in her nose! haha It sounds ridiculous when I describe it, but I think it turned out pretty good!

I’m really, really happy with the way this one turned out! It might just be my favorite thus far.

Day 255(? days late): Aries Drawing

Posted by annagrace under Days 101-200

Contining on in the zodiac colored pencil portraits, this one is representative of Aries. Aries is associated with the ram, so I had the idea to draw a woman who looked like her hair was styled into ram horns. This drawing is pretty mch entirely my own concept other than looking at images for face shapes.

I am really happy with the way this one turned out!

Day 254(? days late): Pisces Drawing

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

Continuing on in my theme of Prismacolor colored pencil drawings of zodiac symbols, this picture is for Pisces. The pisces sign is associated with fish, particularly two fish swimming in almost a circle. When I googled pisces, I came across a few images where they incorporated fish into a woman’s hair, so I decided to go with that!

This drawing is a bit more cartoony than the Aquarius one mostly because of the image I was basing it off of, but I really like it! I was hoping to get one more drawing in tonight, but if I have any hope of sleeping well tonight, I need to head that way ASAP! At least one more drawing tomorrow!

Day 253(? days late): Aquarius Drawing

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

I decided today that I wanted to get back into the practice of sing my Prismacolor colored pencils more. I have realized throughout this project that if I come up with some sort of theme, I am more likely to actually do it, so I decided to do a set of drawings with my prismacolor pencils depicting women as the 12 zodiac signs! I wanted these to be fun and somewhat cartoonish, almost like tarot cards.

I started out with Aquarius, which is of course, the best sign! (FYI that is my sign!) I googled some images of Aquarius for inspiration and then got to work! Aquarius means the water bearer, so I wanted to use that classic image of the woman pouring water. It has been awhile since I have drawn with colored pencil and in this sort of cartoonish style, but by going off of some images I found, I think it turned out ok!

I sort of screwed up the wave symbol in the upper right corner, but you get the idea! I think it turned out pretty decent and I am excited to do more of these!

Day 252(? days late): Stencil Pattern

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

In the process of doing some more cleaning, I came across an old stencil sheet that I used in my design studios when drafting floor plans. This set had a bunch of things like different sized doors, beds, ceiling fans… etc. So I used that to make a sort of pattern with sharpies!

I didn’t use a ruler or straight edge or anything, so it doesn’t all line up right… but your get the idea. Sorry for the blurry picture! The green rectangles are King, Queen and Double sized beds at 1/4 inch equals a foot scale. The teal and hot pink squares are also the king sized beds. The dark blue squares were supposed to be play pins… The red things are 42 inch diameter fans, and the orange lines I drew with the straight side of the stencil.

It was an interesting experiment trying to make a pattern with this stencil. I might try this again with a little more planning to get everything straight!

Day 251(? days late): November Desktop Wallpaper

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

Since it is the beginning of a new month, I created another desktop/wallpaper for you to download and use! I somehow missed doing one for October… but hopefully this one for November makes up for it!

Like the last ones, I used the Fall/Winter 2011 Pottery Barn Color Collection for Benjamin Moore for all of the colors in this desktop. I found a line drawing of a cornucopia, so I decided to fill in all of the colors of that and use it as the main part of this one. I think it turned out really nice!

I really like this one! I feel like it really represents fall, November, and Thanksgiving! As always, feel free to click on the image to see it full size and use it as your desktop!

Day 250(? days late): Book Cover Doodle

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

I’m in the process of doing some much needed cleaning in my room and apartment in general. Since I broke my wrist a week after moving, a lot of things didn’t get packed away and it’s just gotten really out of hand, so now that I can use my wrist relatively normally, I’m finally trying to get everything together! In the process of this, I came across a bundle of 3 book covers I got at Target for a buck. They are white with black patterns so that you can color them and make them unique. So I decided to decorate one! I chose one with a sort of swirly/bubbly pattern. I was going to just color a few sections at a time in different colors all over with sharpies, but after I started, I realized that all of the swirls were connected! So I ended up just sort of doodling over the bubbles in a swoopy pattern… haha not really sure how to describe it!! But that was with the hot pink sharpie. Then I drew in a few circles with yellow and smaller circles with blue. Here’s the finished product taped on the wall so you can see it all!

Close up so you can see the pattern better.

I’m not really sure how you’re supposed to cover a book with this other than just taping it… I may use it for something else!
