Day 72: Pictures of Poetry 2

Posted by annagrace under Days 1-100

Today I decided to put some images to a poem I wrote in poetry class just like on Day 37.

For this poem, our prompt was to write a poem everyday for five days, and then combine them into one poem somehow. So, to represent that with images, I chose an image for each day and divided into 5 sections. I then created the image below in 5 columns with each column representing a stanza. The sections of the images are in the order of the verses. So, as you read the whole poem, you can see what versus correspond with that verse by looking at where the rest of the image is! That’s sort of a round about and complicated way of saying it, but I think it’s pretty easy to follow.

I suggest reading the entire poem first and then going back and seeing if you can read each individual poem. As always, you can click the image to see it larger. And sorry about the weird formatting… wordpress wouldn’t recognize the space between stanzas, so I edited the indentions to make it easier to follow!

Scattered Emotion

Grasping the pencil with a weak hand,

Time for a little breather.

Walking Alone,

Stress explodes from my soul with

Sappy cards and bold decorations,

carrying a lobster red gas can.

red roses and pink carnations.

the mention of another task

trying to finish it all as planned.

Time for friends.

Kissing lovers without hesitation,

Time for no thoughts.

Doubting oneself with every move,

Break down number four of the semester.

Good Lord, it’s cold.

Stares from strangers,

that break the rules of visitation.

but also so wanting to prove,

Can I do this?

Time for resting.

A Valentine’s Day celebration.

but no one offers a hand.

this you can do. You’ll make it through.

Thank God for friends.

Time for… me.

I think that this ended up being one of my most successful poems in the class. Without thinking about it, I somehow managed to meld these 5 completely different poems together into a pretty coherent poem! I think the images split make it easier to follow which poem is which, also, and that’s something I really struggled with in the class as far a formatting.

If you’re still completely lost, here’s the 5 individual poems:

Thursday: (picture of gas can)

Walking Alone,

carrying a lobster red gas can.

Good Lord, it’s cold.

Stares from strangers,

but no one offers a hand.

Friday: (Picture of stressed woman)

Stress explodes from my soul with

the mention of another task

Break down number four of the semester.

Can I do this?

Thank God for friends.

Saturday: (Picture of pocket watch)

Time for a little breather.

Time for friends.

Time for no thoughts.

Time for resting.

Time for… me.

Sunday: (Picture of hearts)

Sappy cards and bold decorations,

red roses and pink carnations.

Kissing lovers without hesitation,

that break the rules of visitation.

A Valentine’s Day celebration.

Monday: (Picture of drafting supplies)

Grasping the pencil with a weak hand,

trying to finish it all as planned.

Doubting oneself with every move,

but also so wanting to prove,

this you can do. You’ll make it through.

Still lost? Well… I got nothing for ya! :D
