Day 302: Photoshopped Self-Portraits 4

Posted by annagrace under Days 301-365

I was bored the other day and didn’t have my computer, so I decided to use the Photoshop Express app for iPad and do some quick edits to a couple of pictures!

I started with this picture from the St. Patrick’s Day party I went to all decked out in green and orange.

Then I just amped up the contrast a bit.

And then I used the sketching technique (or the cutout? Can’t remember…) with the sort of yellowed effect (sorry my ipad doesn’t have enough charge at the moment to look and see what everything is called.).

Then I played with this picture of me with zombie make-up that my friend did.

I just made the colors a little more intense and made the corners fuzzy for added nostalgia!

The last picture I edited is the most recent picture of me. Lately I’ve been playing around with the natural curl/wave texture that my hair has, so this picture was to show that. Here’s the original.

I played with the contrast and did the cutout tool, then created this image with the 4 different colors.

I then took the original image and used the rainbow effect on it.

Then I played with the hue and gave it a fun border!

So that’s what I did on my iPad! Later that day when I was browsing the web, I found this site where you can make yourself into a Mad Men character!! Since I love that show so, so much, I decided to make a portrait of myself meeting Don Draper for a cocktail after work!!

I loved all the different options they had available for body shape, clothes, accessories, etc! I think it looks so much like me, don’t you?

Day 299: June Desktop Wallpaper

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

We may already be a week into the month of June, but I decided it to make a desktop wallpaper anyways! As per usual, I used the Benjamin Moore Pottery Barn colors from the Spring/Summer collection! Since a lot of my friends are getting married this month, I made this calendar wedding themed!

I found the clip art cake online, so I just took it into photoshop and changed the colors a bit, then I added the couple to the top! I really love the way it turned out, and I can see myself using these colors and pattens in my own wedding cake, someday! As always, click on the image above to see it bigger and save it as your desktop wallpaper! Here it is on my computer!

300th post coming up in a bit!! Get EXCITED!

Day 297: Collage Painting Day 2

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

I’m really tired so I’m gonna make this short… sorry!

At any rate, today I finished the painting/collage I posted about yesterday. Last night after the mid-tone dried, I painted the lightest tone…. but the sample jar I was using actually ended up DARKER than the mid-tone. I ended up painting it all anyways, just so it would be even, and then I painted over it with a lighter color today. Then, I just painted the darkest color and I was done!! Here’s the final product, with and without flash.

Can you tell what it is?? It’s extremely abstracted and the image was taken at a sort of different angle. I’ll give you a hint: It’s an instrument!

Give up?

Here’s the original image after adjusting it in Photoshop.

Can you tell what it is? It’s a horn!! I used sort of different colors and it ended up even more distorted in my interpretation of it, but I like it!

I made this for my mom for Mother’s Day! Yes, I know. Mother’s Day already happened. BUT I started this BEFORE Mother’s Day and I knew that I wasn’t going to see her until after. So, yeah… it’s done now! BTW my mom plays horn, so I thought this was appropriate! I hope she likes it!

Day 296: Collage Painting Day 1

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

This creative project is going to have to be spread over two posts because it is going to take several steps to get it where I want it. At any rate, you may recall the mosaic painting I did towards the beginning of this 365 project. In that one I took an image in photoshop and distorted it with the paper cutout tool. Then, using that image, I painted one color at time, layering shades until I ended up with the final image! This project is the same, but I wont tell you what the final image is supposed to be until Im done!

Before I get into the process, I have to let you know that I took a lot of pictures during making this over the past few days, but my stupid phone deleted all of them except the last one!!!! So, sorry! But you can at least see where it is at now!

So I started with a plain canvas that I rescued from work which had been painted a really light pink. I took a misstinted sample jar that was a really bright green and did a light coat over the whole thing using a palette knife so it wold have a bit of texture. While it was still wet, I stuck a bunch of 2×3 inch color chips from work that we were throwing away onto the canvas. I stuck them on in a random order, so it didnt look too formal! As the paint dried, the chips started to curl up on the edges, but I decided to leave it as is because I thought it gave it an interesting texture! After that, I decided that all the random colors where a bit too bright for what I was thinking, so I used a gray misstinted sample jar and did a quick wash over everything. THEN I finally started on the actual painting with the mid tone of the three colors I was using. So here is where it is now!

Sorry its an Instagram pic, but thats all I got! I hope to finish this tomorrow!! In the meantime, any thoughts as to what it is??

Day 289: April Desktop Wallpaper

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

I hadn’t made a desktop calender in awhile, but I was inspired to the other day when we put out the new Spring/Summer Pottery Barn colors at Benjamin Moore! So, using all of those colors, I made this desktop pattern/wallpaper! I gave it an “April Showers” theme with the rain cloud. I’m thinking I’ll do May flowers next month!

I was able to find a .png file through google of a rain cloud I liked, so I pulled that in photoshop, changed the colors to the Pottery Barn ones, and then designed the rest around that! Every color in this is one of the Ben Moore/Pottery Barn colors, even the lines in the calendar! If you want to know which colors are which, ask me in the comments!

Here it is on my slightly cluttered desktop!

As usual, feel free to click on the image for a bigger version and then download it as your desktop! Enjoy!

Day 288: RHCP Beaded Bracelets

Posted by annagrace under Uncategorized

I decided to give the whole beaded craft on a loom another shot. This time, I made 2 bracelets! On the 10th, I’m going to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers play in Georgia!!!! I’M SO EXCITED!! This is the first time they’ve done a US tour in almost 5 years, so when I heard about the tour, I immediately asked my mom for a ticket for Christmas, and she kindly obliged! They are probably my all-time favorite band… I’ve even seriously contemplated getting a tattoo based around their Californication album! At any rate, I decided to make myself a bracelet to wear to the concert!

This time I made my pattern in on the computer, and here it is.

The red sort of sun looking thing is supposed to be their logo, an asterisk. Here’s some shots of the progress.

I ended up having to make this a lot longer than I expected, so I ended up with a lot of white space, but that’s alright! After I finished, I wove the ends together to make it a solid loop. I made it with stretchy string so I can get it on and off pretty easily.

Somewhat hard to read, but I still like it and will wear it proudly next Tuesday! After I finished, I texted a picture to my friend, Brian, who is going to the concert with me, asking if he wanted one. He replied as predicted with, “Hell yes!” :D So, I made him one as well! I was running low on the white beads, so I replaced them with lime green. I also knew his wrist is a lot bigger than mine, so I put an asterisk between each letter. It’s not quite done… still have to weave the ends together, but here it is anyways!

I think it turned out pretty awesome, and Brian loves it! If I have time and enough beads, I might make some for the other two guys going with us! SO RIDICULOUSLY PUMPED!!! EEEEEEE!!!

Day 287: Beaded Keychain

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

Sometimes when I’m at Walmart, Target, or Hobby Lobby I’ll head over to the kids craft section and see if anything catches my eye that looks like fun… even better if it’s on sale! This creative project is a perfect example of that!

It’s a loom that you use to make beaded jewelry! While all the beads are colored a bit too bright for my slightly more adult taste, I decided a fun, bright keychain might be nice! So I created a pattern, as you can see below.

I used the pink, aqua and lime green beads to spell out my initials with a border surrounding. I meant to take pictures of the process, but I forgot, so here is the final result!

Pretty neat I think! Although, I have no clue how an 8 year old do it! It was hard work! I think I will attempt another one!

Day 272: Leo Drawing

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

Continuing in my Zodiac colored pencil drawings, today I drew Leo! This one a started awhile ago, but never finished, so I just completed what I had started. I made her hair all poofy and sticking out like a lions mane and then put some animal ears on her head. The face is a little awkward, but I drew it too dark to be able to fix it. Then when I was writing out Leo, I accidentally started to write Libra by accident!! So, to mask that, I ended up shading around the word with a dark gray, so it’s sort of muddied, but I think all and all it turned out okay!

Day 271: Gemini Drawing Take 2

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

You may recall that a while back, I was creating drawings that were personifications of the zodiac signs! I haven’t finished that series yet (working on it…), but before I do, there was one drawing I really wasn’t happy with and wanted to redo… the Gemini. In the original drawing, I tried doing the hair differently than the other drawings in the series, and failed miserably. The whole thing just came out as a muddy mess! So I decided to try again!

I looked back through my sketchbook and found one of my original ideas for the drawing with the twins’ hair intertwining together instead of just sort of mushing together. It looked a ton better that the drawing I ended up with, so I just continued from that sketch and finished it! Not really sure what I didn’t like about it originally, but whatevs.

I think this turned out really great and definitely much, much better than the original drawing! I hope to finish this series of drawings this week!

Day 268: 5 Truths About Fear Painting/Collage

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

As you all know by now, for Christmas, birthdays, and pretty much any occasion where gifts are called for, I usually make them! My sister, Katherine definitely knows this to be true, so before Xmas and her birthday back in December, she asked me to create a painting/poster/drawing or something that had these words on it from a book she was reading. You’re supposed to say these 5 Truths About Fear several times throughout the day, so she wanted something that said them.

Here’s the words in case you can’t read them:

FIVE TRUTHS ABOUT FEAR
1. The fear will never go away as long as I continue to grow.
2. The only way to get rid of the fear of doing something is to go out… and do it.
3. The only way to feel better about myself is to go out… and do it.
4. Not only am I going to experience fear whenever I’m on unfamiliar territory, but so is everyone else.
5. Pushing through fear is less frightening than living with the underlying fear that comes from a feeling of helplessness.

I started out with just painting the canvas with a blue sample jar miss tint that I had in hand, then I used a crackle finish over that. Unfortunately, it didn’t show up very well, so I moved to plan B of decoupaging some pieces of tissue on top of that. And then I just wrote the words on it with a metallic silver Sharpie and I was done! I think it turned out pretty well, and now I just have to mail it to my sister! Hahahaha… Oops. In my defense, I DID have surgery right before Christmas, so, yeah. I’m terrible, but I will be sending it ASAP!
