Day 224(16 days late): Lucky DUET WITH MASON!!

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

For this post, I collaborated once again with my friend, Mason! If you remember, way back for day 100, we did Come On Get Higher as a duet! Since then, we’ve been wanting to do something together again, but just couldn’t get together to do that until now! Today we recorded Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat’s Lucky!

We actually have been practicing this for quite awhile with the sheet music I found and wrote out the parts to in garage band, but today was the first time we were able to do it together! So we started by recording both parts at the same time while listening to the song, then we recorded Mason playing the guitar and me playing ukulele! The ukulele added a nice element of fun, and I was excited to try playing it for the first time since I got my cast off! (I’m wearing a brace now for at least the next 6 weeks, but it’s much less cumbersome than the cast!) So, here’s our recording!

Lucky

We had sooooo much fun doing this! We talked about a bunch of other songs we could do, possibly even some more elaborate with drum parts and everything!! And another friend of ours is interested in doing some stuff, so look out for some more great collaboration in the future!!

I discovered yesterday that I could still play soprano recorder with my cast on, but not alto. Normally I would record everything with the alto recorder because I like the sound of it better since it’s not as high and shrill, but I made an exception today since I hadn’t done anything on recorder in awhile.

I hunted around for quite a bit until I found a duet on freesheetmusic.com called Minuetto per due flauti becci in G. It looked like fun. so I thought I’d give it a shot! Well, it was a lot harder than I originally thought, so I had to practice it a lot. It was also really high, which added to the difficulty of it. At any rate, by the time I finally recorded it, my hand/wrist was really sore from all the practicing and so I just sort of rushed through it. There are TONS of mistakes and parts where what I played isn’t even remotely like what is written! But somehow, when it all came together, even where I screwed up seemed to work! I do apologize for the shrill squeaking, though!

Minuetto per due flauti becci in G

It’s a really bad version of what could of potentially been a good duet, but that’s the best I could do for now!

Anna Grace

This song is another one from my favorite musical, Spring Awakening. This song is a duet between two of the characters, and is one of the most pivotal moments of the play. I just recorded both parts acapella.

Don’t Do Sadness/Blue Wind

I love how these two songs meld together. It’s like Moritz’s innocent past being sung by Ilse tries to remind him that there are happier times and can still be, but Moritz can only think about all the sadness of the present, and unfortunately that’s what wins in the end. Everything about this musical is amazing!!!

Day 100!: Come On Get Higher DUET WITH MASON!

Posted by annagrace under Days 1-100

I’VE REACHED DAY 100!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I CAN’T BELIEVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

Sorry about that… I’m just so excited!! Starting tomorrow, I’ll get to add a new Category to my posts of Days 101-200! Anyways, for today’s post, I had a very special collaboration with my friend Mason that has been in the works for awhile! Mason saw my version of More Than Words from Day 80 on my facebook and commented that he loved that song and would record it himself if he could sing that high! And I said, “Mason! Let’s do a duet!” And then he told me he could play guitar, so I got extra excited!! We’ve been talking back and forth about this a lot since then, coming up with songs and what-not, but we’ve been unable to find a time to get together! I originally thought that I wanted to have a duet of ours be my 100th post, but we had already given in to the thought that it wouldn’t happen in time. But then, by chance, we happened to both be available tonight, so we did it!!! So! For the song we did Matt Nathanson’s Come On Get Higher! It had a fairly simple guitar part that Mason had already been working on, and good harmony in the chorus! It was a tad low for me, so my voice is a little rough, but I think Mason sounds amazing!!

Come On Get Higher

We had sooooo much fooling around today and we have many, many more duets in the works! I expect Mason to be a frequent contributer to the blog now. :) (He even has a ukulele!!) Thanks for helping me celebrate 100 days, Mason!

And thanks to all of you, my friends, family, and some people I don’t know who follow my project! Without your support and encouragement, I couldn’t have made it this far and I think you all will help me make it to my year goal! I’m still always open for ideas of any kind, no matter how silly or strange! Your ideas are what keep this project interesting!

Keep up with me on this crazy ride!

Day 88(2 days late): 3 Harder Recorder Duets

Posted by annagrace under Days 1-100

I know, I know… more recorder???? But these duets I chose are ones in that bunch of 20 that I’ve been avoiding because they were a little high and I didn’t know the fingering, or had accidentals (and I didn’t know the fingering…), but finally decided to tackle them! These are all alto recorder with soprano fingerings.

The first one is Far Og Søn. I hadn’t done this one mostly because that highest not is really hard to get out… so sorry for the shrilling! But I really like the lower part!

Far Og Søn

The second one is Pentaton melodi. Pretty much the same thing one this one… really high note! Sorry it sounds so gross… you have to push a lot to get that note!

Pentaton melodi

The last one is Allegro, and it had a lot of accidentals that I was unsure of the fingerings for. I sort of botched some of this one, but I think it turned out alright, all things considered!

Allegro

For those keeping track, I have, so far, done 17 of the 20 Easy Recorder Duets for Children… so… only 3 more! Each of those are even harder, for various reasons, so I think I’ll wait a bit before tackling them!

I’m slowly catching up!! Yay!

Day 87(3 days late): 8 Easy Recorder Duets

Posted by annagrace under Days 1-100

I’m doing a lot of recorder duets right now… sorry! They’re a quick and easy way to try and catch up on some posts!

This set of duets is a little bit better, because it’s more than just a few! I recorded the first 8 duets from Tom Horn’s 20 Easy Recorder Duets for Children on Alto Recorder (soprano fingerings). I did it all as one track so I wouldn’t have eight few tracks that were like 20 seconds long :) . Excuse the sniffling between songs… The songs in order are 1. Enten – Eller, 2. Skyggespil, 3. En spadseretur, 4. Alfedans, 5. I skoven, 6. Pardans, 7. Roturen, 8. Gadedrengens sang.

Duets

Enjoy!

Day 86(4 days late): 2 More Recorder Duets

Posted by annagrace under Days 1-100

I had every intention of posting this last night… in fact I had logged into Word Press and everything! …And then I woke up with my face on my keyboard 2 hours later, hahahaha!! So, yeah, better late than never!

Anyways, for this post I did a couple more recorder duets. They’re from that same easy duets for kids thing. The first one is called Hinkeruden. I recorded it on Alto recorder with soprano fingerings. It was pretty simple to do!

Hinkeruden

The second one was called Pimpelmænd. Also recorded on Alto recorder with soprano fingerings. I tend to do that a lot… I like the way the alto sounds better than the soprano… Anyways, It was also pretty easy, so there you go!

Pimpelmænd

SO! I’m going to try and get a few posts in today, although my throat is killing me for some reason and I’ve got to get to studying for my exams… :(

Day 84(5 days late): 2 Recorder Duets

Posted by annagrace under Days 1-100

So this is a fairly short and easy project, but I’m trying to get caught up!! So, I recorded two recorder duets from  20 Easy Recorder Duets for Children by Tom Horn. The first one is called Nissedens. I recorded both parts on the soprano recorder. I only did one take of each, so forgive the mistakes!!

Nissedans

Since that was only 20 seconds long, I recorded another one! This one was called Tag-fat and was recorded with alto recorder with soprano fingerings. It took a lot longer because the way the rhythms of the two parts worked well when together, but when separate, they were sort of confusing. Also, all the written B’s were supposed to be flat, but I just couldn’t get the fingering down that way, so I just kept them natural…. It makes it sort of strange sometimes, but oh well!

Tag-fat

I’ve got two more posts in the works today, see be on the lookout later tonight!

Day 73: 2 Recorder Duets, Disen and Ekko

Posted by annagrace under Days 1-100

These recorder duets were really easy and short, so I did two of them! In fact, they were from a pdf I found on free-scores.com called 20 Easy Recorderduets for Children… haha! So, yeah they were easy. :D They were written by Tom Horn and it looks as though the title might have originally been in German (20 lette blokfløjteduetter for børn), so the titles of the duets are in German also. Also, I played these on Alto Recorder using Soprano fingerings.

The first one is called Disen.

Disen

The second one is called Ekko (it’s sort of like a round). BTW I changed from minor to major because it was having issues with the Bb fingering!

Ekko

There ya go!
