Day 284: Dear Prudence

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

So, I thought I was done with my Beatles kick, but then I came across the chords for their Dear Prudence, so I decided to give it a shot! That link is for the original Beatles version, but I also like this take of it from Across the Universe!

So, I sang the melody while playing ukulele on one track, and then I recorded the harmony parts on other tracks. Just ignore the AC kicking on and off!

Dear Prudence

I’m pretty happy with how this turned out! It was never one of my favorite Beatles songs, but it’s growing on me!

Day 282: Across the Universe

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

This post is the last in this series of Beatles songs, and it is Across the Universe! This has always been one of my favorite Beatles songs because not only is it beautiful, but the lyrics are pure poetry! You may recall that way back on Day 175 I created some digital art with the lyrics from this song!

Across The Universe

I hope I did this song justice, other that where I ran out of breath… :/

BTW I just realized that I didn’t do a recap video for month 9. It’s harder to keep up with where I am in the project, month wise, now that I’m not saying how many days late I am, so, sorry! I’ll be posting one either later tonight or tomorrow!

Day 280: I’ve Just Seen A Face

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

This post’s song is the Beatles hit, I’ve Just Seen A Face. I tried to do more than just down strum on this one and struggled a bit with that in combination with the fast lyrics… but I’m happy with it!

Day 279: Something

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

Next up in the Beatles songs theme with ukulele is Something! This one was a bit harder, because it has a lot of crazy chord progressions, but it was fun!

Something

Hope I didn’t butcher it too much!!

Day 278: Yesterday

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

Apparently I’m on a Beatles kick. Today while searching for ukulele songs I bookmarked a bunch of ones I liked and more than half of them were Beatles tunes! So, I decided to go ahead and just record a bunch of them and get some posts out of the way!

This song for this post is Yesterday. One of the most popular Beatles songs, I just recorded it in one  take, singing and playing at the same time.

Yesterday

I’ve got 4 more songs to post, so I’m going to make these short!

Day 277: Eight Days A Week

Posted by annagrace under Days 201-300

As most of you know, Tennessee and surrounding states have been, and still are, experiencing some severe thunderstorms and/or tornadoes. Knoxville just got hit about half an hour ago with some bad hail where I am, but nothing more, thank goodness. Many other places were not so lucky, so those with damages and injuries are in my thoughts and prayers and I hope that those without power will get it back soon!

At any rate, as soon as the hail started, I ducked into my bathroom and sat in the tub with my ukulele and my laptop!! To try and keep my mind off of the storm, I found some fairly easy chords to the Beatles Eight Days A Week and did a quick recording! The acoustics/balance are sort of crazy since I was in the tub and my voice and the strumming aren’t really in the correct rhythm, but considering I was recording this during a hail storm with my lights flickering, I think it turned out alright!

Eight Days A Week

Please keep those not so lucky in your thoughts over the next few days! And I hope the storms die down even more before they hit my friends and family in North Carolina!!

So this is just a short easy post to try and at least get something in, even though I’m working and packing like mad!

One of my favorite Beatles songs is Across The Universe, mostly because the lyrics are just so awesome!! Everything is just so eloquently put, so I decided to just type out the lyrics and make a digital art piece surrounding/behind them, making the lyrics themselves the focus. I realized the other day that I usually always like songs purely for their musical value, which is not necessarily a bad thing! But, I oftentimes don’t even notice the lyrics because I’m so focused on the music! So, I’ve been looking more deeply into lyrics of songs to try and understand them and like them for their poetic genius, as well as the killer music! That’s the main reason I wanted to do this project. I mean, who else comes up with phrases like, “Thoughts meander like a restless wind inside a letterbox?” Pretty amazing…

At any rate, after finding a suitable font for the title and then for the lyrics that you could still easily read, I found an image of rain on a window that I used as the background. I adjusted the hue/saturation and brightness/contrast a bit then used the watercolor filter to give it a bit of texture and hide some pixelation that occurred. I then found a sort of organic scroll image (it took a ridiculous amount of time to find one I actually liked! I thought about drawing something myself, but my scanner isn’t working  ) and made it two different colors. I put it in the corner and adjusted the opacity a bit so you could still see the image behind.  I made the font a contrasting purple color to the green scrolls and I was done! Easy enough, but I think it came out pretty spiffy!

So there you have it! Not much more to say about this… so… bye?

Man am I awkward…

Day 159(1 day late): Hey Jude (Acapella Trio)

Posted by annagrace under Days 101-200

So… I lied. I said I was going to get another post in last night, and it just didn’t happen, mostly due to stupid technical difficulties. But, at any rate, here’s a post now and I’ll hopefully catch up over the rest of this week.

As you should know by now, I love The Beatles! I mean, what’s not to love? I also love acapella harmonies, so I searched for awhile for a good multi-part acapella piece that was in my range and when I came across an arrangement of Hey Jude for two sopranos and an alto, I pretty much had to do it! So, it’s pretty self-explanatory, but just a heads up; I sort of botched the end “better, better, better” part because it happens so suddenly and it was at a page turn.. so just ignore the awkward moment of silence. :) Also, I really wanted to adjust the volume levels at different parts of this so that when the various voices have the melody, they’re the loudest, but every time I tried to do that, it made the file waaaayyy too big, and it would crash when saving, so it’s all about the same volume, but I’m pretty happy with it anyway!

Hey Jude

Eh, I was having issues with my voice, but it’s all good.

I promise I’m catching up… at some point. But at the moment, I’m having serious issues with my car, so I’m just trying to figure that out for now…. slightly preoccupied. But, I’ll catch up when I can!!

Day 134: When I’m 64

Posted by annagrace under Days 101-200

I’m in Nashville tonight and headed to Chicago tomorrow!! So, I just did a quick version of When I’m 64 by the Beatles!

It’s a little too low for me, so it’s sort of scratchy at some points!

When I’m 64

Sorry this is such a short post! I have to reorganize everything to get through airport security!
